Si je vous dis David Fincher, Kevin Spacey et Robin Wright, vous vous demandez certainement de quel film je vous parle… Eh bien non ! Il ne s’agit pas d’un film mais bel et bien d’une série ! Pour notre plus grand plaisir…
À l’origine, on retrouve Beau Willimon, l’auteur du très bon film politique « Les Marches du Pouvoir » et Netflix, le géant américain de la VOD. Le tout pour une série distribuée en exclusivité et en intégralité dès le premier jour sur le Web en février 2013.
Pour mener ce projet à bien, Netflix a mis toutes les chances de son côté en réunissant une équipe de rêve ! David Fincher (Se7en, The Game, Millénium), Kevin Spacey (Se7en, Usual Suspects, American Beauty), Robin Wright (Forest Gump, The Pledge), le scénariste ici producteur délégué Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich, Benjamin Button), Joël Schumacher (Phone Game, Chute Libre) et bien d’autres.
Alors si au début on peut croire à un simple montage marketing, on se rend très vite compte que la qualité est bel et bien au rendez-vous !
House of Cards est une véritable réussite. À la fois addictive et intelligente, elle raconte les ambitions sans limite et sans scrupule d’un membre du Congrès des Etats-Unis, Franck Underwood…
S’il est un des grands artisans de l’élection du candidat démocrate à la Présidence, Underwood tombe de haut quand il se voit spoiler le poste de Secrétaire d’Etat qui lui était pourtant promis durant la campagne par le futur Président en personne. Vexé et blessé au plus profond de son amour propre, il promet de se venger et de détruire tout ceux qui l’ont trahi, et ce quel qu’en soit le prix à payer. S’en suit, un échiquier géant, fait de manipulations, chantages et abus de pouvoir.
Durant toute la saison, on ne cesse d’être admiratif devant la maestria de cet homme à toujours se sortir des pires situations et à toujours finir par obtenir ce qu’il veut. On prend un plaisir coupable à voir son pouvoir grandir d’épisode en épisode, et on ne peux s’empêcher de poser cette question : Franck Underwood arrivera t’il a étancher sa soif de pouvoir avant que quelqu’un ne face s’écrouler son château de cartes ?
D’un point de vu technique, cette adaptation de la série anglaise du même nom, est d’une élégance rare. Tout y est traité avec le plus grand soin afin de rendre un peu plus flou, voire même invisible, la frontière entre le petit et le grand écran… Je vous conseille donc vivement de vous plonger dans les arcanes de la politique américaine avec cette série qui a tout pour plaire…

If I say David Fincher, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wrigh, you will certainly wonder what film I am talking about… You’ll have got it all wrong ! It isn’t a film but a series !!! For our greatest pleasure…
In the beginning, we have Beau Willimon, the one who made the very good political thriller « The Ides of March » and Netflix, the american giant of VOD. All together this brought us a series distributed in exclusivity and entirety it’s very first year on the Web in February 2013.
To finalize the project, Netflix got all the right cards by gathering a dream team !

House of Cards is a real winner. All in one, addictive and intelligent; it tells of the limitless ambitions of a member of the United States Congress, Frank Underwood …
If he is undoubtedly one of the masterminds behind the election of the candidate of the democratst to the Presidency, Underwood takes it real hard when he sees someone else chosen as State Secretary; a job that he had been promised all along the campaign by the future president himself. Offended and hurt in his pride, he promises to avenge himself and destroy all those who betrayed him and this, whatever the cost. Following this, is a gigantic chessboard, made up of manipulations, blackmails and abuse of power.
During all the season, we can’t help but admire the maestria of this man that enables him to get out of the worst situations and always end up by getting what he wants. We feel a guilty pleasure at seeing his increasing power episode by episode and we can’t help wondering : will Frank Underwood manage to quench his thirst for power before someone manages to topple his house of cards ?
From a technical standpoint, this adaptation from an english series with the same title is of a rare elegance. Everything is treated with the utmost care to render the border between big and small screen as thin as possible, to the point of making it almost invisible… So I do advise you to get deep into the arcanes of american politics with this series that has everything to overjoy you…
