La soirée des Oscars est la plus prestigieuse manifestation cinématographique du monde. La 85ème édition avait lieu le 24 février dernier au Dolby Theatre, à Los Angeles. Le must de la soirée restera sans nul doute la découverte inattendue de l’identité de la superstar qui allait annoncer le titre du meilleur film de l’année.

On assista en duplex à la conversation entre Jack Nicholson et Michelle Obama, qui, dans un salon de la Maison Blanche, a ouvert l’enveloppe qui contenait le nom du vainqueur : sans trop de surprise il s’agit du film Argo, de et avec Ben Affleck. Cette victoire était attendue tout comme celle du film Amour de Michael Haneke, dans la catégorie film en langue étrangère.

La soirée fut également placée sous le signe du sacre de Daniel Day-Lewis, qui a remporté, grâce à son interprétation d’Abraham Lincoln, la très convoitée statuette de meilleur acteur et ceci pour la troisième fois dans sa carrière. L’Oscar de la meilleure actrice est allé à la jeune et ravissante Jennifer Lawrence, pour Happiness Therapy, de David O. Russel.

Pour le reste du palmarès, le film L’Odyssée de Pi d’Ang Lee a remporté quatre trophées. La comédie musicale Les Misérables de Tom Hooper a remporté deux Oscars et a valu une statuette à Anne Hathaway dans la catégorie second rôle féminin. Le film de Quentin Tarentino Django Unchained a permis au réalisateur de remporter son deuxième Oscar de scénariste, tandis que Christoph Waltz a obtenu l’Oscar du second rôle masculin pour la seconde fois de sa carrière.

Steven Spielberg qui n’a jamais compté parmi les favoris de cette 85ème édition, n’a vu son film Lincoln récompensé que de deux Oscars, pour les costumes s’ajoutant à celui de Daniel Day-Lewis pour le meilleur acteur. L’acteur en recevant son trophée des mains de Meryl Streep a dans son bref discours salué la mémoire du président Lincoln.

Cette cérémonie aura réservé son lot de surprises et de nouveautés, dont celle de son nouveau présentateur en la personne de Seth MacFarlane, l’auteur de la série animée « Les Griffins », dont l’humour qui fut jugé parfois un peu déplacé, n’aura, semble t-il, pas fait l’unanimité dans la salle du Dolby Theatre.

Le cinéma américain se porte bien, il regorge de talents divers et semble toujours faire autant rêver les cinéphiles du monde entier. Comme le veut la tradition, la soirée s’est prolongée avec le célèbre Bal du Gouverneur où l’Europe aura brillé sous la forme des bulles de champagne, avec la marque Thiénot..

Côté français l’acteur Jean Dujardin lauréat en 2012 de la statuette du meilleur acteur masculin était sur scène, arborant une barbe naissante et un sourire toujours aussi charmeur.

Rendons enfin hommage pour clôturer cet article à Madame Emmanuelle Riva qui fêtait son 86ème anniversaire à Hollywood et qui n’a malheureusement pas été récompensée. Cette grande dame pleine de bonté et d’humilité a chaudement applaudi la jeune Jennifer Lawrence.

En attendant la 86ème édition en février 2014, le cinéma américain nous réserve sans nul doute de beaux moments de bonheurs et d’émotions sur nos grands écrans. La fête du cinéma continue donc en dehors du Dolby Theatre.

85th Academy Awards ceremony

The Oscar night is the most prestigious cinematographic event in the world. The 85th Academy Awards ceremony took place on February 24th at the Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles. Discovering the identity of the super-secret guest announcing the award for best picture of the year remains the big happening of the night.

The conversation was broadcasted live via satellite between Jack Nicholson and First Lady Michelle Obama who, from the Diplomatic Room of the White House, opened the envelope with the name of the winner: to nobody’s amazement, Argo by and with Ben Affleck. The victory of Amour by Michael Haneke for best foreign language film came as no surprise either.

The evening also marked the crowning of Daniel Day-Lewis, who became the first three-time recipient of the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Abraham Lincoln. The Best Actress Oscar went to the young and attractive Jennifer Lawrence for her role in Happiness Therapy by David O. Russell.

Other recipients included Life Of Pi by Ang Lee (four awards); the musical « Les Misérables » by director Tom Hooper with three awards inclu- ding a win for Anne Hathaway for supporting actress; Django Unchained for best original screenplay (second Oscar in this category for director Quentin Tarantino); and Christoph Waltz winning a second time in his career the Oscar for best supporting actor.

Steven Spielberg, who was never predicted as a favorite of this 85th Academy Awards, picked up two wins only for his film Lincoln, one for costume design and the trophy for Daniel Day-Lewis who, when receiving the Oscar from Meryl Streep, gave a tribute to President Lincoln in a short speech.

Among the surprises and innovations of the 2013 ceremony was the new host, Seth MacFarlane. The creator of the American animated sitcom Family Guy displayed a sense of humor that got mixed reviews from the audience at the Dolby Theater.

The American film industry is doing well, with a wealth of talented artists and an enduring ability to making dreams come alive for worldwide film aficionados. As is the custom, the evening wrapped up with a European flair of the Governors Ball as Champagne Thiénot was the only champagne featured at the Oscars and during the most exclusive after-party in town.

On the French side, last year’s best actor winner Jean Dujardin was on stage, as dapper as ever, with the same charming smile and sporting a new beard.

Let us finally pay homage to Mrs. Emmanuelle Riva who celebrated her 86th birthday in Hollywood and was unfortunately not given an award. A grand dame full of kindness and humility, she applauded warmly the young Jennifer Lawrence.
